Soft Palate Surgery
What is a Soft Palate?
Common symptoms of a long soft palate include a chronic cough, snoring, noisy panting, and gagging when drinking water or excited.
It is most common in breeds with a thick head and short lower jaws-brachycephalic types.
Corrective surgery
Any breed can develop soft palate paresis or have a genetic elongation of palate.
Breathing and panting is heavy and laboured, the palate acts like a sail and blocks air movement on inspiration and again on expiration producing noise, breathing difficulties and distress.
Corrective surgery involves removing 1/3 of the palate to open oropharynx and free air flow.
